Planning an adventure this summer? Nothing ruins a road trip like unexpected car trouble – we hope none of you have to learn that first-hand. Fortunately, a little bit of preparation goes a long way. For a stress-free and easy road trip, make sure your car’s in good shape before you leave. Here’s our essential list of what to check before a road trip.
Don’t Leave Without Checking:
If it’s been a while since your last oil change, it’s a good idea to change it before a long road trip, even if you haven’t quite hit the recommended mileage yet. Stopping by for a full-service oil change will give us a chance to check your car for any other problems that might act up during a long trip.
Check all four tires for any damage, make sure they’re inflated to the right level, and do the penny test to make sure they’ve got a decent amount of tread left. Then, check your spare!
Your Windshield Wiper Fluid
On a long summer road trip, your windshield is going to collect bug splatters at an incredible rate. Running out of wiper fluid isn’t a trip-ruining disaster, but it sure is annoying. Top up your wiper fluid before you leave, or bring the jug so you can refill on the go.
Your Emergency Kit
You’ll find lots of guides for putting together a bigger road trip emergency kit, but as a bare minimum, make sure you’ve got:
- All the paperwork you’d need if you got in an accident – registration, insurance card, contact information for roadside assistance if you have it.
- Jumper cables or an emergency jump-starter with a fresh charge
- Basic first aid supplies
- An extra phone charger
- A few extra snacks and water bottles
Happy adventuring from the Matt Castrucci Honda team! May all your summer road trips be relaxing and trouble-free!
