Sign a Petition to Bring the Type R to the US

There’s good news for the 20,000 people that have taken the time to sign a petition to bring the Type R to the US. Don’t get too excited though, it isn’t the whole car, just the engine. This is still exciting news though. The way we see it, whatever they end up putting the engine in, it will be incredibly similar to what European drivers have.

The Type R engine is on its way

The Type R engine is on its way

It is expected to be in a new variant of the Honda Civic or a refreshed CR-Z. It is likely that it could even be in both. Some have thought that the Civic Si was going to get the 2.0L turbocharged engine, but a source close to Honda has said that is not the case.

We will likely find it in a variation of the Civic

The 278 horsepower engine will surely be welcomed in any vehicle by those that so strongly desire to get their hands on the Type R. Other great news is that, wherever the engine makes its appearance the Type R tag might be coming with it.

If a new Civic variation is being created we don’t see why it wouldn’t be a 5-door. There are already plenty of sedans and coupes. If this is the case, Honda has just really been teasing us all about there not being a Type R available for the US. This would make all those petition signers very happy, especially of Honda admits that those signatures are what made it all happen.

There is also a chance it will be in the CR-Z

If the engine also finds its way into the CR-Z it will go from a niche sport hybrid to a titan killer of performance vehicles. With it’s incredibly light weight and already sporty body, the hybrid is ready to go full sport. Though we doubt Honda we completely do away with the hybrid aspect. We could likely see a Type R version alongside a stronger hybrid. Both vehicles are sure to excite the performance fans of Honda throughout the states.
