Items Drivers Should Never Leave in Their Car During Summer

Every driver knows that the interior of their vehicle can heat up drastically when parked out in the sun for an extended period of time. Because of this, it’s important for drivers to avoid storing temperature-sensitive items inside their vehicle. Below, we’ve put together a list of items drivers should never leave in their car, especially in the sun.

When exiting a vehicle, drivers should make sure to take all food and drinks out of the vehicle as well. Consuming perishable food items left in a hot vehicle can increase the risk of foodborne illness. Leaving plastic water bottles out in the sun can also be an issue. Direct sunlight speeds up the plastic’s degradation process and can result in harmful substances contaminating the water within.

Electronic devices are also another major concern. This is especially true for smaller devices like phones, which are easy to accidentally leave inside of a vehicle. Most electronic devices are not built to withstand extremely high temperatures for extended periods of time. Phones left inside of a hot vehicle may experience permanent damage to its battery or other sensitive components.
