What engine does the 2019 Honda Insight have?

The hybrid nature of the Honda Insight inherently makes it efficient, but it also comes with questions pertaining to the engine power. Typically, hybrid engine systems aren’t the most impressive in terms of output. Still, the 2019 Insight features a 1.5-liter I4 engine powered by 107 horses. This traditional gasoline engine works with an electric motor so less fuel is used. That’s precisely what makes a hybrid vehicle a hybrid vehicle. All versions of the Insight sport a two-speed continuously variable transmission which also contributes to the car’s fuel economy. Drivers can expect to average up to 55 city mpg*, 49 highway mpg*, and 52 combined mpg*. Typically, cars are more efficient on the highway than in the city. That’s not the case with hybrids. The reason for that is simple. Whenever you are coasting, at a stop, or just not pressing the gas pedal, the Insight’s gas engine turns off and the electric motor takes over. So, if you drive strategically, you will really benefit and save some cash at the gas pumps.
