Honda Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

LKAS can reduce driver fatigue and keep you in your lane. This works with a digital camera system that monitors the roadway ahead of your vehicle and detects road markings. It compares the position of your vehicle in relation to those markings. The LKAS system helps make highway driving easier. It is activated at speeds between 45 and 90 mph. If your vehicle begins to move out of the center of your lane without a turn signal activated, the steering will adjust to help keep you centered.

Honda Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Working in conjunction with the LKAS, the ACC makes highway driving easier. When you set the cruise control, the ACC will help to regulate your speed in relation to your distance from other cars. Your ACC will adapt your cruise control speed to that of the car in front of you and then maintain a selected interval behind the car. The system works by emitting radar waves that bounce off of vehicles ahead and then return to the unit. This tells the system the distance between your car and the vehicle ahead, as well as the changes in that distance. Then speed is reduced or light braking is applied to maintain a preset following distance.

Honda Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

FCW works in conjunction with the Collision Mitigated Braking System™ (CMBS™). The feature uses a small camera mounted at the top of the front of the windshield in order to detect the presence of other cars in front of yours. If the FCW determines that you are at risk for a collision with a vehicle it has detected, it activates alerts, both audio and visual, to warn you of the risk. Then, if you do not act, the CMBS™ will automatically apply braking pressure to help you avoid an accident.

Honda Collision Mitigation Braking System™

Like we discussed in the previous section, the CMBS™ helps you avoid collisions by applying braking pressure when your vehicle’s camera and radar detect the possibility of a crash. This uses a millimeter wave radar sensor in order to notify you of risks. It is designed to help avoid collisions in addition to safe driving habits.
